Speculative architecture and geodesic structures

Casa Astros is a speculative design project conceived by architect Eduardo Leñero and set in the year 2098. Placed in a rocky, arid landscape of unknown location, the project proposes an extreme-resilience dwelling designed for conditions beyond the conventional Earth environment.

About the project

Casa Astros is a speculative design project conceived by architect Eduardo Leñero and set in the year 2098. Placed in a rocky, arid landscape of unknown location, the project proposes an extreme-resilience dwelling designed for conditions beyond the conventional Earth environment.

Geometry and Exterior Structure

The design breaks with traditional massing by using floating living capsules shaped as geodesic polyhedra. The envelope is built with a dark structural grid framing smooth, opaque triangular panels, ensuring the stability and airtightness of the form. At its lowest vertex, the structure ends in an intensely lit module that marks the visual and energy anchor point of the volume.

Relationship with the Landscape

The intervention on the ground is minimal and deliberately non-invasive. The living capsules are suspended over circular bases of solid concrete set directly into the bare rock landscape. To organize the settlement at ground level, the project uses perimeter rings outlined by grazing lights, which define safe approach zones and routes for exploration crews and surface vehicles, keeping the terrain in its rawest, original state.
